“I’ve signed up. Now what?” Check the website for errors. www.chesstrm.org/NYC/ If your school is not correct or other members are using different codes for your school you can correct that ASAP with an email to mcmanusj363@gmail.com Saturday morning after 9:15 no changes will be made for round 1.

Players may play against their own team. This sometimes happens even with the best software. Send an email if you notice something needs correction through the website posting. Don’t wait until too late to make changes after the round has been posted. Notify the webmaster immediately.

Thank you for signing up for “NEAR”, TRM#325, the chess tournament on  Nov 11, 2023 at Bishop Loughlin HS.  There is no ENTRY FEE for this tournament, but you must have a current USCF membership to participate in the tournament.  Registration closes Friday at 6:00 PM.

If you are new to chess or have an expired membership you can join/renew on-site.  The form, available at the check-in desk, must be completed before 9:15 to be paired for round 1.  Non-members are not permitted to play in rated tournaments.  The reduced fee for USCF memberships on-site is $9, good for one full year.

Please plan to arrive to check-in between 8:30 – 9:30.  All play four games. Games are at 10:00, 11:30, 12:45 and 2:00. Awards are at 3:30.

If you check-in after 9:30 your name will not appear on the pairing list for the first round.  You may be able to play round 1 after the rounds are posted. You will have to be patient and wait until the staff can help you after those listed get seated correctly.  Please wait near the check-in area.  You may be called at 10:00 as those already posted begin their game on time. 

Players who are checked-in as present and paired for round 1 but do not appear at the correct board within 30 minutes from the start of the round will be removed from the tournament.  

The welcome message (attached) may answer some of your questions regarding the tournament.  

Please enjoy the enclosed courtyard and the auditorium between rounds.  Parents may not stay in the tournament hall duing play of the rounds.  

No noise is permitted in the tournament hall as great concentration is required for the players.  Please bring the kids outside to play and make noise.

 Phones, especially, are not allowed in the playing area. 

Chess game clocks are set to G/30;d5.  “Touch piece” rule includes saying “I adjust” BEFORE touching a piece.

All tournament  results will appear on the website at www.chesstrm.org/NYC/

Awards:  1st, 2nd and 3rd Place in each section receives a trophy.  All players with 2.5 or more points receives a medal.
