The Right Move

“Play by the Rules”

Handbook

1 The deadline for registering for a tournament ends at 8:00 on Thursday before a tournament..  If in doubt register to play early.  You will receive a confirm notice sent by hand from Brother John to the email address on your registration .Then check the website to see the entry is correctly listed.

1a/ Ratings of players may change when the monthly supplement comes out, causing players to be moved to a different group (section). The USCF will make the new ratings for the coming month available after the third Wednesday of the month. Adjustments will be made by our staff to your section where necessary. You do not have to do anything except play in the correct section.

1b/ Players with expired USCF memberships must renew.  Scholastic USCF memberships and renewals are available for $9/ year at the site.  Please pay with cash (no credit cards) at the tournament.  Checks are accepted.  No USCF players may compete with expired membershipdates.

2 Sign-up registration at the door on the day of the tournament is good only to begin play in round 2.  There will be no exception.

3. Players in the King, Queen and Rook Section who do not post the result of their game may be withdrawn from the tournament and given no result for that game. It is the responsibility of both players, not just the winner, to post the results. In all other sections both players must report the results to the scorer. Players who do not report results will be withdrawn from the tournament.

4. Games begin at 10:00 with the signal, “Shake hands and begin.” At this point players should start the clock.  Please consult the chart to see The official time to set for using a clock in that section.

5. Pairings must be posted by 9:45 so players can be seated on time.  Please be sure to know your correct table number and opponent.

6. If your opponent does not show up in thirty (30) minutes you win. A donation of $5.00 will be required of those not showing up after having been checked in (or the penalty you may not participate.) You must notify the TD if you will not be present for the next round.  You may request a half point bye. Notice:  The new entry form allows “Yes” for round one check -in so players can go straight to the pairing sheet (beginning with TRM 183 on Dec. 9, 2012.)
