Comments, Suggestions, etc., received so far:—

6/7. I noticed at the schedule for the summer has all Saturdays. Just wanted to check if you can alternate Saturdays and Sundays during the summer? We are not able to do Saturdays and I’m sure other families are in the same situation. -Sangeetha

6/11. Interested in the Quads  45/5 idea for the summer.  I would also be interested in playing the adult section. -Tom

6/14 Kids are more than interested to attend the chess tournaments during summer. And can we start the round at 11 like how we have been doing, as it would be helpful for people like us who come from far.  -Lavanya (Response: So far no one has indicated Saturday is good for them)

6/21 What sections will there be for Scholastic players? -George W Depends on who signs up in pre-registration. Last year some dates had less than six players sign up and a mandatory 12 sign-ups became required or the tournament would be canceled. (No one showed up at one location.) Hopefully players can make it on time to correct locations and correct recognition can be awarded to players as they progress at chess mastery. Six player minimum seems required for decent pairings in a section.

  • 6/17 Other possibilities of sites for outdoor tournament:
  • Bryant Park  ( i don’t remember how many  chess tables they have though )
  • McDonald park , forest hills ( but i think they have very few tables )
  • chess and checkers house in Central Park
  • Zuccoti Park near World Trade Center ( supposedly has 25 chess tables )-R Sarkar; Zucotti Park for tournaments in the financial district….which I think is a great location! So I second that motion!- George W

Questions:-

Is the QUADS section only open to adults? Quads will be posted according to sign-ups, but will start with those who actually show up on time. If the Quad starts at 11:00 and Bobby Fischer decides to show up at 11:30 for this first round game, he will be posted in a new section (rather than allowing his clock to run and guess that he might show up). Any player currently uscf can play in the Quads to play 3 games at G/45;d10. The Scholastic section will be SwissSys for players up to grade 12.

Can kids choose to play in quads (instead of the swiss)? See answer in above section.

– Do you anticipate the Scholastic swiss section being broken into sections based on rating? I anticipate nothing. I work with other volunteers such as Sunny Y as a volunteer, while parents and kids help by arriving early to do the set up (and storage after the tournament) of equipment that provide some stability to the program. I would like to see the SwissSys have about 6 players per sections with a first place trophy for each section and medals for those with 2.5 or more points. As this new summer program develops (or flounders) based on your comments and the actual sign-ups, which are about 80% accurate, necessary modifications will be made for the enjoyment of the kids we serve

.

How do you pay for all this? Donations. We have no regular income. Our donations the past year are several $1 donations from players renewing memberships through The Right Move. Our foundation (501c3 tax deductible not-for-profit) has received one sponsor donation of $200 since January of 2020. Our TD in Albany has personally contributed more than $400 for rating fees and awards for on-line tournaments serving the Capital District in the Tri-State area Thanks to the generous time and precious help of volunteers professional chess is available for free for Scholastic players. Donations pay for medals, trophies, rating fees, insurance and equipment. Please help us raise money for this coming year as prizes are now being planned based on current income.
