Information Re: Chess at Riverbank

We are still looking for sponsors for our Free Scholastic Tournaments for next year. Nine Sponsors ($200) would provide trophies and medals for each of our nine tournaments.  (501c3) (Checks payable to The Right Move Chess Foundation, Inc.)

January donations totaled $244.00.  Thanks to those who have helped us move towards a full schedule of nine tournaments for next calendar year, October through June 2016. (Trophies, medals and rating fees for one tournament are $200.)

The list of registered players which follows (see section below) shows those correctly placed for the best FREE Sunday Scholastic Chess tournament held at Riverbank State Park, 145th St and Riverside Drive, 10025: NOT ON LIST = MISS ROUND ONE. NO EXCEPTIONS! Check-in by 9:15 or miss round 1 with 1/2 point bye. e-mail brjohn@juno.com for correction, or call 212 729-7060.

  • Open & U1400 Start 9:30. Check-in by 9:10. (G/45;d5 3 Rounds) Rds at 9:30, 11:30 and 1:30. Awards 3:30
  • Rounds for the U1000 and U600 start 10:00. (G/30; d5) with next rounds at 11:25, 12:55 and 2:10. Awards 3:20
  • Unrated sections will play G/25;d0 and finish earlier than other sections with rounds at 10:00, 11:10, 12:30 and 1:40. Awards 2:50
  • Team Plaques are awarded for 1st and 2nd Place in each of the six sections. Team must be present to receive award

Registration closes Friday at 8:00 PM.

Advanced Registration for this event closes after the deadline has passed. On-site registration entries will miss the first round and receive a half point bye.

The Riverbank Auditorium in Riverbank State Park (see map* on registration for more detail) is the site of the tournament located across the Henry Hudson Parkway via the overpass at 145th Street and Riverside Drive. The #11 bus is one of several that will take you up to the entrance. Drivers coming by car may ask for a pass at the Kiosk entryway to park underneath the highway . Food is available at a restaurant and a concession stand near the Hockey Rink.

Each player (exception: Advance check-in) must report to the check-in desk by 9:15 to indicate present for Round 1 or you will not be paired. Brief Announcements will take place at that time.  Mr. Scorcia will highlight the names of those present.

Under 1400 and Open sections, which begin at 9:30, will be posted by 9:20 to start on time at 9:30.  

Round 1 begins at 10:00 for all others.. Plan to be seated at the correct table before that time (with clock already set correctly if using a clock).Announcements / welcome will be given at promptly 9:15 since 9:30 is the scheduled start for G/45;d5 and no loud noise is permitted after that in the tournament hall. All  players should enter and sit quietly for 10:00 start after their pairings are posted (about 9:45) . (Beginner Grades 2-5 and 6-12 will use accelerated time schedule and their rounds shall follow soon after completion of their sectional round. See posted schedule.)
