Welcome to The Right Move at Riverbank State Park Theater, 145th St & Riverside Dr, NYC.

Many thanks to the Good Shepherd School (Manhattan, NYC) family for sponsoring this tournament and allowing The Right Move to continue “Free Chess for Youth” since 1990! Sponsorship ($200) pays for one month of trophies, medals and rating fees and TLA announcement in Chess Life.

All staff are volunteers doing very professional work without pay of any kind. Training of new volunteer staff and donations ($5, $10, $20, all sizes) are still much needed. Please know you are welcome to join our staff and volunteer some time. Total donations for October 2015 = $255. November = $531 Dec $190, Jan $256 . Total $1232. Goal = $4000. (Day 1 began Sept 2015). All sizes of donations help: There is no donation too small. Next year will have 6 tournaments instead of 9 due to lack of finances. Below is the list of the sections with a short description of each:

  1. Open – Scholastic USCF rated section for advanced players; g/45;d5. 3 rounds 9:30, 11:30 and 1:30.  Trophy to top 3. Medal win for 2 or more points. Team plaque (must have at least 2 players) for 1st and 2nd.
  2. Under 1400 – Scholastic USCF rated section for more intermediate players; g/45;d5. 3 rounds 9:30, 11:30 and 1:30.  Trophy to top 3. Medal win for 2 or more points. Team plaque (must have at least 2 players) for 1st and 2nd.
  3. Under 1000 -Scholastic USCF rated section for intermediate players; g/30;d5. All play four games: 10:00, 11:25 and 12:55 and 2:10.  Trophy to top 3. Medal win for 2.5 or more points. Team plaque (must have at least 2 players) for 1st and 2nd.
  4. Under 600 -Scholastic USCF rated section for getting started in tournament play players; g/30;d5. All play four games: 10:00, 11:25 and 12:55 and 2:10.  Trophy to top 3. Medal win for 2.5 or more points. Team plaque (must have at least 2 players) for 1st and 2nd.
  5. Beginner Grades 4-7 – Scholastic Non-USCF players for those who are learning chess and wish to try to increase skills and find some friendly competition.  All play four games: 10:00, 11:10, 12:25, 1:40 (G/25; d0). Trophy to top 3. Medal for 2.5 or more points. Team plaque (must have at least w players) for 1st and 2nd.
  6. Beginner Grades 2-3 – Scholastic Non-USCF players for those who are learning chess and wish to try to increase skills and find some friendly competition. All play four games: 10:00, 11:10, 12:25, 1:40 (G/25; d0). Trophy to top 3. Medal for 2.5 or more points. Team plaque (must have at least w players) for 1st and 2nd.

Registration closes Friday at 8:00 PM. (Limited seating inside. Bring a chair or just sit outside on the picnic grounds overlooking the Hudson River and the Palisades between rounds. Great views, sports, etc.) Free parking.

Advanced Registration for this event closes after the deadline has passed. On-site registration entries will miss the first round and receive a half point bye.

Note: Check in by 9:15 is required to play round 1 so we can begin on time with players paired correctly. Players (all sections) once checked in will not be paired again if opponent fails to show up. Any missing player is fined $5 while waiting player is awarded a win after waiting the necessary time. The pre-paid ($5 refundable- good for the whole year) list for advance check-in appears below this page. (These players on that list must have registered for this particular and/or future tournaments, which appear above).

Best FREE Sunday Scholastic Chess tournament held at Riverbank State Park, 145th St and Riverside Drive, 10025: NOT ON LIST = MISS ROUND ONE. NO EXCEPTIONS! (Players on the pre-paid $5.00 <refundable> list can show up to play when the rounds are posted.)
