That’s right! Brother John McManus, TD, is offering $1000 in matching funds again this year on donations given through December. Our generous players, coaches and parents offered $150 at our Oct. 12 Free National Chess Day Tournament.

Last year trophies, medals and rating fees cost $1800. Donations for NYC totaled $1500. No staff member receives any pay. Our volunteers provide first class training and professional service to our many returning and completely new to chess tournament students. Our goal is to reach $1000 by our December 8 tournament (matching funds will make that reach our goal of $2000) so we can begin planning for our 26th consecutive year.

Last year Mott Hall generously contributed $200 as the only sponsor in the NYC area. (Note: maketherightmove.org shows that all sponsorships in the Albany area’s ten tournaments have been filled.)

Please help us fill our goal by finding willing sponsors to fill the slots ($200 provides trophies, medals for one tournament). Fred Goldhirsch would be proud to see his vision continue beyond our first 25 years! The rest is up to you.

Remember Board Meetings take place immediately after the Award ceremony and all are invited.  Your input has assured quality and consistency to our tournaments. (e.g., Shirts awarded as a result for National Chess Day.)  Get involved. Make your voice heard.
