Old Business

The staff at Roberto Clemente State Park continue to rise up to the challenges whether winter advisory or winter warning.  Clean and hospitable surroundings and cheerful service are constant.  Their generosity and service cannot be undervalued.  They are terrific models for all our chessplayers.

Thanks to all who volunteered setting up tables, sets and boards, supervising the players and making all this possible:  from our volunteer staff—Yvonne M. Scorcia, Marilyn C. Scorcia, Renée M. Scorcia, Henry J. Scorcia, Eliot Weiss and Brother John

The new scoresheets arrived and were put into use on this March 3 event.  They now show the correct website in this updated version.

The calendar for the new year has been tentatively accepted and is now published on the website posting Oct. 13 as the start of the 2019-2020 scholastic chess year.

The lack of a concession stand at Roberto Clemente State Park continues to be a problem.  Remember to bring your own food.

The use of the hot charcoal grill is completely under utilized.  Thanks to Carl and Matthew for their splendid  care of providing hot dogs and beans for all FREE in February.  Carl will not be attending the rest of this year due to the soccer and other activities that he serves.

Reports:

  • 24 vouchers were purchased, enabling players to take advantage of joining/renewing USCF for the reduced fee of $9.00.
  • Thanks to the generosity of many anonymous donors The Right Move received $159.00 in donations today.
  • Only one person signed up for the  refundable Pre-Check in opportunity. You can register and check-in on the website all year long without having to check-in on site for one $5 fee.  The full  list appears on the website. (Failure  to show up  without withdrawing before the pairings are posted forfeits the $5)

New Business:

  • Anybody got a match?  The lighting of the charcoal grill needs competent hands to bring more than the charcoal, lighting fluid and good culinary skill.  Brother John tried to cook and serve more than 200 people hot dogs while helping direct the tournament, but…  Send an email to chesstrm.org subject Cook out241 with volunteers or helpful suggestions.
  • The new officers for 2019-2020 take effect in June 2019 so that October does not catch The Right Move unprepared.  Renee has gathered a great team this past year. Only April and May remain for on the job training.  The new team is due to be announced by  the end of May.
  • Pick your month to help sponsor a tournament to ensure The Right Move can smoothly transition into the coming year. For $200 we can provide trophies, medals and rating fees for one tournament. There are nine (9) tournaments from October until June.   Consider getting a matching gift from your employer  as The Right Move Foundation, Inc.,  is a 501c3 tax deductible organization.
